The Nursing Practice Development Department is staffed by a Nursing Practice Development Co-ordinator (NPDC), Clinical Placement Co-ordinators (CPC), Student Allocation Liaison Officer (SALO) and Administrator.
The work carried out by the NPDD focuses on enhancing nursing practices with the aim of developing and maintaining a quality, person-centred service for adolescents and adults who experience mental health challenges.
This is achieved by:
• Producing standards and policies that support safe, evidence- based nursing practice.
• Conducting regular audits to measure the impact of these standards and policies on quality improvement.
• Co-ordinating and facilitating mandatory training and Continued Professional Development courses for Registered Nurses with a view to enhancing their clinical skills, creativity and innovation when working with service users and their families.
• Providing Clinical Supervision and Coaching to assist nurses reflect on and enrich their clinical practice.
• Delivering preceptorship training to registered nurses who in turn guide and support undergraduate students in linking theoretical knowledge to healthcare practice.
• Sourcing and developing new clinical placements for student nurses to extend their range of exposure and enhance their understanding of mental health.
• Maintaining a positive, effective learning and work environment for nursing staff and student nurses.
• Actively contributing to the development of new clinical frameworks and healthcare strategies through membership of local and National working groups.
